Wow! That took a turn

When I was younger, I used to have this crippling fear that I would be homeless.

That I was one paycheck away from losing it all.

Having a stable job and income was always really important to me.

Did you ever feel that way? I wonder if that was just a "me" thing.

I went to a retreat in Sedona last week with Elyse Archer.

It was transformational, as you might expect.

I met unforgettable people, as you might expect.

What I didn't expect is to come back with a WHOLE new outlook on my views around self-worth and money.

I always thought my mother shaped my obsession to work and earn money.

Because she didn't choose that avenue.

She was a stay-at-home mom caring for 6 kids while my father traveled internationally.

My mom had to be the mother figure and the father figure.

She did everything. Except earn money in a traditional job.

And she suffered financially, emotionally, physically every day since my parents divorced.

It was an important lesson for her three daughters to earn their own money.

And never rely on a man for their security.

It was obvious why this has driven me so hard.

But it was deeper than that.

It was my dad.

My dad knew how to show love only one way. Through money.

He has always been kind, generous, and affable.

He's an immigrant from Lebanon. Women always took care of him. Always.

But has never been an emotional support. Or dad-like at all, actually.

He is a good man. But when my parents split, he left the country.

And we sold the house.

I didn't have my dad available or the house we loved.

House = foundation. Stability. Comfort.

Stepping out? Do something new? Gone.

Do you see where I'm going here?

Transitions are big and can form the walls we put up to protect ourselves.

And we are talking about Mental Wealth with Rich Jones of the Mental Wealth podcast and movement on the podcast today.

P.S. HOLY SH*T! THIS might make you change religions.

P.P.S. This had me rolling.

P.P.P.S. I'm doing ridiculously amazing interviews now for the next miniseries on REparenting. After that? BIG transitions. Got a story that changed everything? Know someone whose story needs to be told? Hit me up!
